Maximize Your Skiing Potential
Maximize Your Skiing Potential
By Dr. Darrin Robertson, D.C.
Do you think it's too late to get conditioned for the ski season? Or have you already attended a conditioning class and you'd like to maximize what you've learned? We can help.
Avoid Injuries
Your goal this year might simply be to remain injury free for the ski season. Or perhaps you are attempting to head to the backcountry. It's important to maintain flexibility within your joints and muscles regardless of your goal. Often, ski injuries occur and are severe due to bound up muscles and joints - the body just "snaps" upon impact. A perfect analogy can be made with silly puddy. If you pull silly puddy, suddenly it snaps and breaks quickly; if you warm silly puddy in your hands it will stretch but not break. Our bodies work the same way. It is important that you have body awareness in order to know where your tension areas are so that you can listen for potential warning signs. Through core strengthening and routine spinal alignment we can improve your body's ability to withstand the common injuries that occur while skiing.
Why a Strong Core?
Basically, your core is the area from the bottom of your rib cage to the middle of your thighs; all of your body's power is generated from this region. If your core is strong you will be able to ski longer and with greater ease due to improved balance and increased oxygenation to your muscles. The Living Chiropractic Center's system of evaluation will show us where you body is overworked and underdeveloped. With knowledge of your body's imbalances, we will be able to develop a personalized plan to maximize your body's potential. Not only will your skiing improve, but also your day-to-day quality of life will improve.
How We Can Help
You are with yourself twenty-four hours a day. You are with us twenty minutes a week. We create a personalized plan for you that encompasses spinal adjustments and specific stretching and strengthening exercises in order to bring your body back into balance. Our goal is to teach you ways to maintain the work we're doing in the clinic so that you can achieve your goals on the slopes.
How We Will Improve Your Performance
Your nervous system is in control of your entire body. If anything interferes with your nervous system, your body's potential is limited. Spinal adjustments will free up the physical energy needed to help your body function at a hundred percent. We will create a specific treatment plan to re-educate your body's nervous system towards maintaining the balance we've achieved at the clinic.
We have technology that can allow us to analyze your posture and nervous system to determine where your imbalance exists. By analyzing your posture, we can determine your weight distribution, i.e. center of gravity. Most people are not perfectly balanced. Typically people carry more weight on the right or left side. Our analysis will show us what we need to do to help you redistribute your weight and improve your ski performance. By scanning your nervous system we can often determine imbalances that might have gone unnoticed.
We can improve your skiing balance and form by helping you zero in on the true cause of your body's dysfunction.
